5 Reasons to Start Skin Brushing Every Day

Most people have heard that skin brushing is good for exfoliation and for circulation, but there’s a whole host of benefits that you might not be aware of. Here are 5 great reasons to get skin brushing before you shower every day:
  1. It’s really exfoliating – yes, skin brushing is fantastic for exfoliating the skin, getting rid of dead skin cells and keeping it smooth and bump free. But did you know that it also helps the skin to absorb the all-important Vitamin D from the sun? And because in the UK most of us are deficient in Vitamin D, we want to make sure we get any that the sun has to offer!
  2. It’s boosts circulation – when you brush your skin you bring blood to the surface of the skin. This in turn helps the body to eliminate metabolic waste.
  3. It can help Lymphatic flow – Naturopathic doctors recommend skin brushing to help with bloating because the massaging affects the lymph nodes to help the body get rid of excess water and toxins. Naturopaths recommend brushing for 3 to 5 minutes towards the heart, before a shower every day. The friction causes the blood to move to the surface of the skin which in turn pulls the lymph and thus improves lymphatic movement.
  4. It helps to reduce cellulite – along the same lines as lymphatic flow - those unsightly dimples on the legs and arms haunt the majority of women. There’s differing viewpoints on what causes it; some believe it is a build-up of toxins in the body (which is my view), whilst others say it is a weakening of the connective tissue. Perhaps it’s both. But one thing that is known is that it can be improved by regular and consistent skin brushing.
  5. It is mood lifting and revitalising – dry brushing can actually become a bit addictive because if feels really good (once you’ve got used to the feeling of the brush bristles). I for one love the whole ritual of dry skin brushing and try to remember to do it at least once a day. It’s very invigorating!

Thank you Lara, glad you found it useful. It's one of those things that people don't realise how nice it is until they start doing it!
