How to Break the Cycle - the Power of the Body Reset

Cleansing or detoxing has become very popular over the last decade or so as people discover the health benefits that it can offer including improved energy, weight loss and  improved sleep to name a few. But did you know that the practice of detoxing is nothing new and actually dates back thousands of years to the ancient practice of Ayurveda and beyond. 
Are All Detoxes Beneficial?

​In its recent popularity, detoxing has become somewhat controversial as more extreme versions have entered the market, often promoted by celebrities, such as the Master Cleanse Diet, popular with Beyoncé and consisting of water, lemon, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Or you may have heard about the Cooler Cleanse, popularised by Salma Hayek and which consists of purely drinking raw juices for 3 to 5 days. Then there’s Megan Fox’s Apple Cider Vinegar cleanse, which, well, focuses on drinking large amounts of Apple Cider Vinegar! Whilst most of these are highly ill-advised, some of them such as juice diets have their place in certain situations; however, it’s never advisable to try them unless under the supervision of a nutrition expert or doctor.

​On the other hand, a gentle body reset is something that most people can hugely benefit from on a fairly regular basis, using the power of clean, honest, whole foods to encourage the body to gently release toxins, to give the digestive tract a rest, and break the cycle of bad eating and drinking habits. This process of simply changing the diet for the better, and including naturally detoxifying foods and liquids, will naturally kick-start the body’s detoxification process. And when used regularly and appropriately, will result in significant improvement to both health and vitality.
The Benefits of a Gentle Body Reset
The benefits of gently resetting the body are numerous, especially when repeated every few months. Depending on your current state of health and diet, different people will experience different effects, but these can and often include an increase in energy levels, enhanced sleep, improved digestion, weight loss (not just water weight but fat loss too), glowing skin, improved immunity, increased concentration levels, sweeter smelling breath, healthier hair and anti-ageing benefits.

Foods that Aid the Body Reset
There are many foods that can help the body to gently cleanse itself, either by helping the digestive tract to rid itself of unwanted debris, by stimulating the gall bladder to release bile, or by helping to stimulate the liver pathways. The types of food that fall into this category tend to be vegetables in all their glorious forms and colours, allium veg (such as onions and garlic), dark fruits such as 
black grapes and blueberries, seeds, nuts, whole grain rice, live yoghurt and vegetable sources of protein. Plus there are many herbs and spices which will also help the process such as turmeric and ginger.
Foods that Hinder The Body Reset
There are certain foods and drinks that we need to avoid during a cleanse as they will hinder the process, including red meat, sugar, milk and cheese, wheat/gluten, alcohol, caffeine, fried foods and heated oils.

As well as eating a clean diet, there are other detoxification techniques that can be used to help with the process, such as skin brushing, hot and cold showers and Epsom salt baths. Again, it’s always advised these are tried under supervision but they can be hugely beneficial.
