How Do You Know if Your Body Needs a Reset?

It’s of course not really an accurate term as you can’t actually reset your body, but it’s as close as I can get. Other terms are cleanse, detox… but I’m not so keen on those as it leads people to think you can actually force things out of the body, using supplements, food, oils etc… and you can’t.
A reset can be the trigger needed to start the healing process, and many don’t realise just how important this is!

Some detox programmes are at best, ineffective, and at worst, dangerous, but when you safely eliminate toxic build up in your digestive system, and help the body remove toxins that could be impairing liver function, many things can and do start to improve.

So, how do you know if a reset could be helpful for you?

There is a list of things that people (and women especially) can look out for, to help them decide if a reset is for them. If you have 2 or more of the following list, then a reset could be very helpful for you.

  1. Weight Loss issues – difficulty losing weight isn’t just down to calories but can be a symptom of something bigger including stress, poor gut health/metabolism, hormone imbalance and toxic load. When the gut and liver are inflamed our metabolic hormones and insulin levels can be affected, causing a slowdown in metabolism and encouraging the body to hold onto fat.

  1. Sugar cravings – these are a really good sign that things aren’t quite right. We crave sweet foods due to various reasons including blood sugar imbalance, insulin resistance, candida (yeast overgrowth), chronic stress and more.

  1. Brain fog or difficulty concentrating – there are many reasons for this including hormone imbalances and toxic build up

  1. Digestive issues – bloating, excessive gas, indigestion, heart burn… all good signs that the gut could do with some serious TLC, to improve and bring balance to the microbiome and to improve nutrient absorption.

  1. Feeling anxious or low mood – an increase of toxins in the gut, and the brain, can cause increased inflammation and reduce activity of key neurotransmitters that help us to feel good! This can lead to feelings of low mood and anxiety. Hormone imbalances can also play a big part in how we feel emotionally.

  1. Skin issues – spots, acne, dry skin, psoriasis, eczema, rashes… all of these are clear signs that the body has a build-up of toxins and the liver and gut are not working optimally. The skin becomes the next detox path when the liver and gut are compromised.

  1. PMS symptoms or irregular periods – again, the liver and the gut are key here. When either are inflamed or not functioning well, it affects the detox pathways for our hormones, especially oestrogen, which can lead to oestrogen dominance, which in turn can cause PMS, and irregular menstruation. Add in perimenopause for women 35+ and it’s even more fun and games!

  1. Chronic tiredness – toxins affect our cells and specifically the engines of our cells, known as the mitochondria, which are very sensitive to toxins and can reduce their function, causing us to feel less energy and sometimes complete fatigue.

  1. Headaches or migraines – this can be yet another sign that your body needs to rid itself of toxins. There are many causes including hormonal issues (often low levels of progesterone and oestrogen), sluggish liver function, and inflammation.

  1. Recurrent or chronic infections – those suffering chronic infections are in absolute need of a reset!

If you said yes to two or more of the above, and you’d like to find out how a reset could work for you, drop me a direct message, or book in a discovery call with me.
