How I Used January to Reset, Restore & Balance

For the last few years I have spent time between Christmas and New Year doing planning for the year, setting some intentions (not goals, but directions; you can read more about that in my New Year’s post) and mentally preparing myself for the year ahead. And this is usually followed by a food cleanse and reset in mid-January.

But this year was a little bit different. I decided to go through a much more in-depth cleanse of lots of other areas of my life. I have still done lots of planning, actually more so than previous years, and I did my 7 Day Vital Reset programme with a group of women last month, but I added some more elements and I found them really helpful. I feel like I’ve cleared out a lot of space in my home, and in my mind, as well as feeling very well and healthy.
I thought I’d share a little bit of what I did, and how it helped me:

  1. Gut Cleanse – I have always suffered with my gut. In fact, my gut issues are what led me onto the path of self-healing and becoming a Nutritional Therapist. I no longer suffer the pain I used to experience, but I still get grumblings if I don’t eat the right way, and Christmas definitely doesn’t help. I like to do a regular gut cleanse as part of my 7 Day Reset where I take some extra gut cleansing and restoring supplements and powerful essential oils to help restore balance. With Western diets, chlorinated water, and anti-biotics in foods that many consume, it can be highly beneficial to gut cleanse and then restore, a few times throughout the year.

  1. Technology Cleanse – My mobile phone use was quite frankly getting out of hand! When my son was saying to me ‘mum put your phone down,’ I realised the balance had definitely gone. So, I started to look at my phone use and downloaded an app which monitors how much I use it. I was shocked! I was picking my phone up absent-mindedly, without even realising I was doing it. I am ashamed to admit that I was addicted. So, I’ve put some measures in place to sort this out and I’m pleased to report that my phone use has dropped to a respectable level again. There’re still improvements to be made, but I’m the right path now…

  1. Wardrobe Cleanse – I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a clothes hoarder; I think it stems from the fact that I look after my clothes, so they do last a long time. But this has meant that I have been accumulating a lot of stuff that I no longer wear, in the hope that one day it might come back into fashion. Anyone else? Lots of work wear from my corporate days when I used to spend a lot more on clothes, were still sitting in my wardrobe, taking up valuable and limited space. So, after New Year I had a big clear out. It felt liberating, almost like I was making way for new things to come into my life.

  1. Clutter Cleanse – And this leads me on to other areas of my home. I’m not a hoarder of everything (just clothes really) but it’s so easy to allow clutter to accumulate. If you follow the Clutter Clearing Expert, Karen Kingston, you’ll learn how, in Feng Shui, clutter affects many aspects of our lives such as relationships, work and creativity. I went to work on my bedroom (no more storing ‘stuff’ under my bed, or hanging things on the back of my door), my kitchen (you wouldn’t believe the crap accumulated in my junk drawer), and my workspace (the amount of paperwork stored, that I no longer needed, was ridiculous). It felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders, I felt ‘lighter.’

So, these are just some of the things I’ve been doing in January to reset and return to balance. I’ll be sharing more on this topic over the coming months, as I start to create a new online programme focused on helping people to Reset, Restore and Balance their lives.
