One of the most common things I hear from women over 45 is that they don’t just feel tired.
They feel less resilient. Stress hits harder, recovery takes longer, and symptoms like anxiety or low mood seem to appear out of nowhere.
This is where hair tissue mineral analysis, (or HTMA), can help explain what’s been changing underneath the surface.
If you’re new to hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA), I explained in my last article what the test actually measures and why it’s different from standard blood work. This post builds on that.
HTMA can highlight mineral patterns associated with how the body responds to stress, produces energy, and regulates the nervous system over time. In menopause, these patterns may reflect long-standing depletion, compensation, or imbalance that contributes to fatigue, anxiety, poor stress tolerance, and reduced resilience, even when standard blood tests appear normal.
Fatigue in menopause is often described as:
waking up already exhausted, even after a long sleep
feeling wired but tired
crashing after small amounts of stress
struggling to recover from busy days
This kind of fatigue isn’t usually about motivation or sleep hygiene alone. It’s more often linked to how efficiently the body is producing energy and how much reserve it has left to cope with ongoing demands.
Minerals play a central role in these processes. HTMA can help identify patterns that suggest the body has been running in a compensatory mode for a long time.
Many women are surprised by the sudden appearance of anxiety, inner tension, or emotional fragility during menopause, especially if they’ve never experienced this before.
Mineral balance influences:
nervous system excitability
stress hormone signalling
the ability to switch off and recover
HTMA doesn’t diagnose anxiety, but it can reveal mineral relationships that help explain why the nervous system feels less stable or more reactive than it used to.
This can be particularly validating for women who are told their symptoms are psychological when they feel very physical.
Stress tolerance isn’t about how much stress you have. It’s about how well your body can respond and then return to baseline.
In menopause, many women notice:
slower recovery after stress
increased sensitivity to caffeine, alcohol, or exercise
feeling “flattened” or overwhelmed more easily
HTMA can offer insight into patterns linked to poor stress adaptation, showing how the body has adjusted over time rather than how it looks on a single blood test.
One of the most important things to understand about HTMA is that it’s not about chasing individual mineral levels.
Two women can have similar results on paper but very different experiences depending on:
mineral ratios
compensatory patterns
overall balance
This is why interpretation matters more than the test itself, and why symptom history is always part of the picture.
Menopause tends to expose underlying inefficiencies that the body could previously compensate for. What once worked quietly in the background starts to feel fragile.
For many women, seeing these patterns reflected in HTMA results helps make sense of:
why symptoms appeared seemingly “out of nowhere”
why pushing harder no longer works
why rest, nutrition, and support suddenly matter more
It doesn’t mean something is “wrong”. It usually means the body has reached the limits of compensation.
If you want to understand how mineral balance and stress adaptation can influence fatigue, anxiety, and resilience during menopause, I explain this in more detail in a short 15-minute video that walks through what standard tests often miss and how HTMA fits into the wider picture.
